To operate a holiday rental in Lanzarote, the property must be registered as a Vivienda Vacacional (VV) through a declaración responsable (sworn declaration) submitted to the Cabildo. Since December 2025, Law 6/2025 has generally required the property to be at least 10 years old and municipal planning to expressly allow tourist use.
In buildings under the horizontal property regime, the community of owners must also approve it (Horizontal Property Law). Declarations are generally valid for five years and can be renewed while the requirements are still met.
